He graduated with a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Australian National University (ANU). He had previously studied at the University of Oxford where he obtained an M.Phil. in International Relations; and the\u00a0 London School of Economics and Political Science, finishing with\u00a0a B.Sc. in Economics (First Class).<\/p>\n<p>Jikon\u2019s broad research interests include international political economy, the politics of global finance,\u00a0the political economy of East Asia, and the politics of economic governance and economic development. He is author of a book on the evolution of financial sectors in East Asia entitled <em>Financial Crisis and Institutional Change in East Asia<\/em> that was published by Palgrave Macmillan in July 2012. Jikon has also published in the <em>Asia Europe Journal<\/em> and the<em>Journal of the Asia-Pacific Economy<\/em>. He is currently working across three related research areas: the politics of global Islamic finance, financial regulation in Asia and East Asian capitalisms.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\ubc1c\ud45c \uac1c\uc694<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p align=\"center\"><b>Islamic Finance in Malaysia: Politics and Policy Making<\/b><\/p>\n<div>How is it that Malaysia has captured the lion\u2019s share of the global market for Islamic bonds (<i>sukuk<\/i>)? This is puzzling because rarely thought of as a key Muslim country like its neighbor, Indonesia with the world\u2019s largest Muslim population, nor is it rich in capital like the GCC economies. This seminar will explore the motivations for the development of Islamic finance in Malaysia, as well as discuss the strategic policies and the deployment of political and technical leadership that have enabled the Malaysian economy to play a disproportionately significant role in the global market for Islamic finance.
